From 5th to 9th October 2026, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Nigeria, with support from the The Global Fund, UNICEF, World Health Organization and CHECOD Africa, convened a five-day National Health Accounts (NHA) Training Workshop in Abuja.

In attendance were representatives from the FMoH&SW, federal agencies and parastatals, as well as delegates from all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Participants were trained on the System of Health Accounts (SHA) 2011 framework, the Health Accounts Production Tool (HAPT), and data collection process for the 2025 NHA exercise.

As one of the technical partners supporting the workshop, CHECOD Africa provided expertise in the following areas:

•    Delivered the foundation session on the SHA 2011 framework and its core concepts

•    Demonstrated the SHA classifications of financing and consumption using live mapping in the HAPT with simulated Health Accounts data

•    Facilitated the health financing indicators session and led the discussion on how to resolve consumption, capital spending and accruals

•    Presented the NGO survey instrument and the principles of designing and administering it

•    Led the session on organised private sector survey administration and guided the hands-on exercise and group presentations

•    Introduced the HIV, TB and Malaria (HTM) disease sub-account and framework and presented the HTM Government Expenditure tool

Through these contributions, CHECOD Africa helped strengthen the capacity of States to produce accurate, comprehensive and timely 2025 National Health Accounts, supporting evidence-based health financing decisions in Nigeria.
