Currently, there are about 10 million mothers of children under 5 who are not in any gainful employment. This has serious financial implications on household income because child care costs can be a sizable financial burden.This burden is particularly heavy for poor families who rely on relatives to subsidize access to health care. The Centre for Health Economics and Development is working in the area of economics of child care including the issue of health insurance for vulnerable children.
