The aim of the two-day technical workshop was to introduce participants to economic and financial modeling as a tool for estimating key parameters from data. It is also to strengthen their knowledge and upgrade their skills and capacities in policy simulations that analyze alternative scenarios for health financing and health insurance. The specific objectives are to:

  • Increase awareness on the common features of countries that have achieved universal health coverage (UHC).
  • Inculcate strategies for expanding coverage of health insurance schemes.
  • Understand the dynamics of policy reforms and the interactions between political processes and economic variables or failure of reforms.
  • Demonstrate alternative pathways for accelerating Nigeria’s progress towards UHC through health insurance.
  • Strengthen capacities for identifying the main revenue and expenditure components of economic and financial simulation model and to determine what combination of the flows will ensure financial.
  • Enhance capabilities to identify the input parameters required for populating the model and/or discuss possible assumptions for a proxy – where data is not available.
  • Understand the economic and health system realities/peculiarities across Nigerian states
  • Demonstrate how projected performance is affected by changes in the assumptions that those projections are based upon.
