This workshop focused on leadership development, health systems strengthening, and strategic planning for health leaders and managers across Nigeria. It brought together three representatives from each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), along with participants from federal departments, agencies, and parastatals. State-level delegates included SWAp desk officers and two additional representatives nominated by each state.
The central focus of the workshop was the Annual Operational Plan (AOP) development process. Representatives from the SWAp office, DHPRS of FMoH and CHECOD presented the national roadmap for AOP 2026, including timelines, responsible entities, and implementation levels at the national, state, and local government levels. This was complemented by a detailed introduction to the newly developed web-based AOP tool. Facilitators from the Planning and Policy Division of the Ministry, alongside CHECOD team members, guided participants through the tool’s modules, demonstrating its advantages over previous Excel-based formats. These included the administration module, priority setting, performance monitoring, ingredient-based costing, and resource mapping.
