National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and CHECOD collaborative research on the Feasibility Study of Vulnerable Groups Social Health Insurance Programme in Nigeria

As part of preparations towards achieving Presidential mandate for Universal Health Coverage, NHIS in collaboration with CHECOD undertake feasibility studies on Vulnerable Groups Social Health Insurance Programme (VGSHIP) in Nigeria.  These studies focused on children (under-5, public primary school and orphans), pregnant women, the elderly, disabled individuals, prison inmates, indigent persons, and high-risk group as target groups of this study.

Participating Consulting Firms are:

  • Centre for MicroHealthcare Community Development and Research, Abuja (South-West Zone)
  • Van – Heusen Associates, Abuja (North-West Zone)
  •  Ultimate Cost Consultants, Kaduna State (North-Central & North-East Zones)
  • Acute Options Limited, Abuja (South-East & South-South Zones).

It is expected that the findings from these studies will guide NHIS and other stakeholders towards the establishment of sustainable social health insurance programme for the identified Vulnerable Groups.
